About selling your Silver, Gold, or Platinum
Wondering if now is the time to sell the sterling silver serving spoons your grandmother left you… but you don’t know where to start? Or maybe you’ve been stacking silver, gold, or platinum bullion for a while – and want to take some profits – but don’t know how to ensure you’re getting the best price?
At the Silver Shop, we know that selling precious metals in any form is often a new and somewhat intimidating experience for most people – which is why we go out of our way to make the process easy, convenient, and most importantly transparent!
If the terms troy ounce, silver fineness, or spot price, are all foreign to you, don’t worry! We will explain what they mean and how they affect the market price of precious metals. Precious metals are valued by weight (in troy ounces) and purity or “fineness” and the price on that particular day is determined by the spot price – a price set by trading on the US Metals Exchange – and a premium or discount above or below that price based on the current market forces of supply and demand.
The digital spot price of precious metals is always displayed prominently in our store, weighing and purity testing will always be performed in your presence, and the premium or discount over or under “spot” will be rationalized to you based on the that day’s market forces.
A note about rare coins and other precious metals collectibles:
we will always do our absolute best to fairly value any coins or collectibles that come into our shop, however we are not experts in numismatics so we primarily rely on reference books and other publicly available information to determine a collectible coin’s value. If we do not feel that we can confidently value your rare coin collection we may direct you to someone else who can. Our reputation and the trust that buyers and sellers place in us is of primary importance to us. We would rather lose a sale then mis-value a collectible coin. We hope you appreciate and understand our position.
